Foothills Multi-Faith Habitat June 28th Volunteer Day
(Please note the change in build location to Heartside Hill; revised June 6)

Join other Foothills’ members and friends for a fun and rewarding day working together either at Habitat’s Heartside Hill development or at Habitat’s ReStore.

VOLUNTEER OPTIONS

“Build” at Heartside Hill (SE corner of E. Trilby Rd and S. Lemay Ave): We have slots for up to 10 build volunteers to work at Harmony Cottages from 8am to 3:30pm. There will be opportunities for folks with significant skills and also for those with absolutely no construction experience. All will be made welcome, given build & safety training and provided with useful tasks. Tools are provided along with training and construction “tips” from professional staff. Depending on the weather and project needs, tasks may range from installing exterior sheathing and foam insulation, exterior siding and trim, caulking and painting (both interior and exterior) – or similar tasks. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, work in a team setting alongside future homeowners, learn new skills and see very tangible results. Ages 16 and older.

ReStore: There are also opportunities for 1-6 volunteers that day to work at the Habitat ReStore for two-to-six-hour shifts (10am-4pm). 4001 S Taft Hill Rd (Just north of the S Taft Hill / Harmony Rd intersection). (Note: The ReStore receives donated goods and sells them back to the general public at a low-cost. Proceeds from the purchases made at the ReStore help to build Habitat homes in our community. They can always use help — from donations processing to customer service to cleaning and organizing.) Ages 14 and older.

Lunch: Want to participate in another way? We would welcome someone to provide lunch for the volunteers and build staff. Please contact me or use the link below if you are interested in this option.
The registration deadline is Monday June 23rd so we can notify the Habitat construction team the number of volunteers to plan for.  Please use this link to register for the Saturday June 28th event.

ADDITIONAL EVENT DETAILS
This year Foothills UC is again one of the sponsor churches for the Habitat Multi-Faith Build. We will be providing both financial and volunteer support to build homes for two families. Please join us in building theirs and other homes. This particular event will be at Heartside Hill, an innovative new housing development providing a diversity of housing types for people at various income levels. The development will include nine single family Habitat homes (our focus), 72 apartments (CARE Communities), 2 homes for adults with intellectual disabilities (L’Arche Northern Colorado), and a Community Building including a future early childhood education center.

 Time:
a) For build volunteers: 8:00 am – 3:30 pm. You are required to attend the safety orientation which starts promptly at 8:00 am. Those who are not present at the safety talk will not be allowed to proceed with the build day. Please try to arrive ~10 minutes early (7:50 am) to sign in before orientation.
b) For ReStore volunteers: please plan to arrive at the ReStore at 10am for orientation and work until ~1pm.

Locations:
a) The Heartside Hill build site is at 6501 Brittany Street (just NW of E. Trilby Rd and S. Lemay Ave intersection). Please use the parking lot at the adjacent Heart of the Rockies church.
b) The ReStore site is at 4001 S Taft Hill Rd (Just north of the S Taft Hill / Harmony Rd intersection). ReStore volunteers please park at the north end of the ReStore parking lot.

What should I bring? Please plan to bring lunch (unless you are notified that lunch will be provided) and a refillable water bottle. Habitat will have water, sunscreen, and first aid kits on site. Habitat provides all the tools and safety equipment you’ll need on site. However, you can bring your own hand tools/tool belt if you prefer.

What should I wear? Closed toe shoes are required on the build site. We recommend wearing work boots or hiking boots because the soles are thicker and will better protect your feet. We also recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Please wear layered clothes appropriate for the weather forecast.

Who will be living in these homes? Families and individuals are selected through an application process, complete homeowner education courses and work at least 250 hours of sweat equity before purchasing their home. Habitat provides homeowners with a no or low interest mortgage with payments no larger than 30% of their income.  This year our Multi-Faith Build will be supporting the build of homes for two more families at Harmony Cottages: Brian’s and Ashley & Morgan’s. In addition, we’ll be providing volunteer build support at other Habitat projects such as Heartside Hill.  This year Habitat will be working on a total of 25 new homes in the Fort Collins area (Harmony Cottages & Heartside Hill) including ~12 expected to close this year and 70 more in the planning stages.
