About Immigration Justice

Our Unitarian Universalist faith calls us to recognize that no one is “illegal” and to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person. We bear witness to the interdependent web of life and know that the struggle for immigrant families to find safety in our community is our own struggle as well.

How can you get involved?
Many of the activities of our Immigration Justice Group are in tandem with and support of ISAAC, which stands for Interfaith Solidarity and Accompaniment Coalition. Foothills Unitarian was one of the primary founders of ISAAC, dating back to 2017. Now ISAAC has grown into a substantial force for immigrant accompaniment in Northern Colorado and we at Foothills are an active part of it. Though our Foothills Immigration Justice Group also takes on various activities on our own, we heartily support ISAAC and participate in their many activities and initiatives.

If you sign up for this Immigration Justice Group, you will receive periodic updates on the work we and ISAAC are doing, and ways you can participate. We also share information about other local events featuring immigrants, as a means of spreading the word about timely issues our community’s immigrants are facing.  Questions? Background:

In August 2017, our congregation voted to become a designated sanctuary congregation, affirming the following statement:

As people of faith and conscience, we pledge to resist any policies that target and/or deport millions of undocumented immigrants and discriminate against marginalized communities. We will open up our congregation and community as a sanctuary space and accompany our immigrant neighbors in their journey for justice and safety.  We will work alongside our friends, families, and neighbors to ensure the dignity and human rights of all people.  We hereby designate ourselves as a Sanctuary Congregation, aligning ourselves with the traditions and practices of the New Sanctuary Movement and affirming our willingness to receive a guest seeking sanctuary into our congregation and to provide hospitality support for them during their stay.
